Food Trivia

The English word "soup" comes from the Middle Ages word "sop," which means a slice of bread over which roast drippings were poured. The first archaeological evidence of soup being consumed dates back to 6000 B.C., with the main ingredient being Hippopotamus bones!

 (Cakes)                           Cherry Coffee Cake

1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
2 each eggs
1 cup sour cream
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
½ cup cherry preserves

Beat butter & sugar well, add eggs, one at a time, beating well, add sour cream & mix well. Combine dry ingredients and add to batter. Stir in vanilla, zest and preserves. Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes.

Notes: Bake 35 minutes only in a 9x13 glass dish.
      Bake 45 minutes in round 9” cake pan.
